Think travel agent marketing is all about dusting off your English Lit skills and writing compelling copy?
Naw.
Marketing is a numbers game.
This might sound funny coming from a copywriter … but it’s true.
It doesn’t matter how incredible the blog post you just wrote is — if it’s the only blog post you wrote in the last 3 months, it won’t really make a difference.
And that juicy opt-in offer you absolutely slaved over? If that’s the only opt-in offer you’ve got, you’re leaving tons of prospects on the table.
If you only try marketing tactics once or twice before giving up, you’re just spinning your wheels.
Because marketing is a numbers game. You’ve got to rack up the numbers before you get results.
That means getting consistent with your marketing — no more of that “one and done” stuff.
It means writing a blog post every single week.
It means having 3, 4, or even 5 different opt-in offers in your back pocket — because you know different topics appeal to different folks.
It means creating an engaging follow up campaign (with MULTIPLE emails) after you book a booth at a trade show, rather than sending out one measly “it was nice to meet you” note.
I’ve experienced the power of numbers myself, and I’ve seen it with my clients. I helped one travel pro craft an introductory letter to send out to small businesses that may be interested in partnering on a group trip. She sent out the letter 9 times with no response … and then she sent the 10th.
Now she’s planning a lucrative river cruise for the awesome group she snagged!
You’re not going to get any kind of marketing right on the first shot. And that’s okay, IF you play marketing like it’s a numbers game.
So, today, I want you to ask yourself: What have my numbers looked like lately?
And one more thought: Travel agent marketing is a numbers game, but it shouldn’t be an exercise in futility. Sometimes, a marketing tactic just doesn’t work for you. Commit to trying for a certain amount of time, though, before you throw in the towel. You may be surprised by what happens on the fourth try or in the fourth month!
