Do you have a juicy lead magnet (also called an IFO or opt-in offer) that you use to add email subscribers to your e-newsletter list?
Yes? Awesome! Then there’s an easy way you can upgrade the sign up experience for your travel prospects.
When a prospect puts their name and email address into that box and hits enter, the next thing they see is your thank you page.
Normally, it says something like:
“Thank you for signing up! Check your email for my free guide.” — or something along those lines.
But your thank you page could be working so much harder for you.
That’s prime real estate. With a built-in audience.
So why don’t you do more than simply thank your prospects?
If having a juicy lead magnet is travel agent marketing 101, then I think having an optimized thank you page is travel agent marketing 102. It’s an extra marketing step that can upgrade the experience for your prospects — and lead to higher engagement.
The Upgraded Thank You Page
I’ll show you some examples.
Check out this thank you page I saw when I signed up for a free ebook from Hubspot.com:
Below the typical “thank you” message, Hubspot included more information about website retargeting. They knew I was interested in the topic since I just requested an ebook about retargeting.
What’s more, they also presented an “upsell” to me: they just got me to download a free ebook … so might I also be interested in trying out a free trial of their analytics tool as well?
Hubspot knows a lot about how humans behave.
Once we take one small action, it’s easier to get us to take a slightly larger, more significant action.
The thank you page for a free download is the perfect place to ask a prospect to take the next step — a free trial.
Here’s another example of a thank you page that works hard:
This one’s from Facebook ads guru Claire Pellatreau.
I had just signed up to receive her free guide to FB ads.
So, on her thank you page, she offered up something else.
Something super juicy.
A HUGE discount on her product!
It’s not a very expensive product, but still, 50% off is pretty enticing.
And since I just signed up for her free guide, she knows I’m invested.
And she knows I’m primed and ready to take the next step.
Make sense?
Travel Agent Marketing: How to Upgrade Your Thank You Page
So, how can a travel pro upgrade his or her thank you page?
Here are a few ideas:
- Ask your prospect to “like” your page on Facebook or follow you on Instagram
- Direct your prospect to a blog post you just wrote related to the topic in your free offer (this is a great way to get them to visit your website)
- Experiment with asking your prospect to sign up for a complimentary call with you, right then and there
- Take it a step further and inspire immediate action with a discount of your own. Do you charge a planning fee? Give them 50% off your planning fee if they sign up for a consult right now.
What’s great about this strategy is it’s a “set it and forget it” approach to marketing.
You only have to work on the thank you page once, and BOOM, it’s working hard for you.
(Though you’re free to tinker with the copy until it brings in more likes/sign ups/whatever you’re offering!).
A “thank you” is nice.
But a “thank you AND check this out ….” well, that’s way better for you AND your prospects.
